February is National Heart Month, and a reminder to everyone to take care of their hearts. Fresh Idaho® potatoes, certified by the American Heart Association as a heart-healthy food, naturally contain many of the nutrients your heart needs to be strong.

It was noisy in Boise for the Second Annual New Year’s Eve Idaho® Potato Drop. Seconds before the stroke of midnight, a 17-foot long spud was lowered by crane in the downtown area to ring in 2015. Tens of thousands attended this family-friendly event including the Idaho Potato Commission’s (IPC) Big Idaho® Potato Truck and lovable mascot, Spuddy Buddy.

Showing its support for one of the most popular fundraisers ever, the Idaho Potato Commission’s (IPC) Great Big Idaho Potato Truck nominated the Florida Department of Citrus, Washington Apples and Georgia Peaches to accept the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The energetic Tater Team that travels with the Great Big Idaho Potato Truck initiated the challenge on Facebook with a video of them drenching the Great Big Idaho Potato Truck.

The head-turning, jaw-dropping Great Big Idaho® Potato Truck is back on the road for its third consecutive cross-country tour with a new message for women: Take care of your heart! The five-month long, 2014 Big Idaho® Potato Truck Tour kicked off in Boise, Idaho with waves, cheers, and hugs from the students of Riverside Elementary School and salutes from soldiers at the Air Force Base in Mountain Home.

As the saying goes “we grow ‘em big in Idaho” and that’s no joke. On New Year’s Eve, the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) was a sponsor of the inaugural New Year’s Eve Idaho® Potato Drop in downtown Boise, ID. The Great Big Idaho® Potato Truck, Spuddy Buddy and 40,000 revelers rang in 2014 as a 17-foot long glowing potato was lowered from a crane into the crowd as the countdown to midnight began.

This month the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) will launch the Big Idaho® Potato Truck #iTuber sweepstakes, offering fans of Idaho® potatoes four chances to win an Apple iPad. Participating fans can enter to win on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook by tagging #iTuber and answering a deliciously simple question: What’s your favorite way to eat Idaho® potatoes?

Back by popular demand, the Great Big Idaho® Potato Truck officially set off on its seven-month cross-country journey with support and good wishes from Governor C. L. “Butch” Otter and hundreds of Emmett, Idaho residents.

As part of its cross-country tour, the Great Big Idaho® Potato Truck spent a few days enjoying the southern hospitality in Atlanta, Ga. One of its first stops was the Atlanta Food Truck Park on 1850 Howell Mill Road. Lunchtime visitors had an opportunity to view this “spudtacular” vehicle and four local Meals On Wheels agencies received a total of 350,000 servings of Idahoan Mashed Potatoes, ready-to-serve, dehydrated potato products.

The U.S. Senators from Idaho, James E. Risch and Mike Crapo, today joined the President and CEO of the IPC, Frank Muir, to welcome the Great Big Idaho® Potato Truck when it rolled into Washington, D.C. for a special appearance in front of the the U.S. Capitol Building. In celebration of the mid-point of the truck’s seven-month cross country tour, to mark the IPC’s milestone 75th Anniversary, Senators Risch and Crapo joined Muir to present a $100,000 check from the IPC to Enid A. Borden, the President and CEO of Meals On Wheels Association of America.

All eyes were peeled on the Idaho Potato Commission’s (IPC) Great Big Idaho® Potato Truck when it blew into the Windy City for the annual National Restaurant Association (NRA) Show.
