Southeast Asia

Malaysia

Malaysia is politically and economically stable and open to foreign trade. With a population of 30 million, it is one of the most developed nations in Southeast Asia. About 50 percent of its population falls into the middle to upper income group of consumers. Malaysia shows good potential for growth as a market for high value consumer products. Best U.S. product prospects include fresh fruits and vegetables, pet foods, dried fruits, nuts, frozen potatoes and processed juices.

Market Notes:

U.S. potato exports to Malaysia were valued at US $53 million. Over 7 percent of this value was accounted for by frozen fries. The U.S. dominates the frozen fry imports, garnering 50% of imports by value and 43% by volume.
