Even though we use the terms scalloped and au gratin interchangeably, by definition there is a difference between the two words. Scalloped potatoes are sliced potatoes that are baked in a cream sauce and topped with bread crumbs while au gratin potatoes are topped with breadcrumbs and cheese. Regardless of the definitions, we love them both! However, we also love to mix things up and create new and exciting recipes.
