EAGLE, ID, December 1, 2006 -- At this year's International Foodservice Editorial Council (IFEC) Conference in Chicago, Idaho Potato Commission's Vice President of Foodservice Don Odiorne received the prestigious Betty Award for his years of service to the foodservice industry.
"This is a tremendous honor," said a moved Odiorne, "For myself, both personally and professionally, and for my company. For the Idaho Potato Commission this confirms our longtime commitment to supply food editors with photos, recipes, tips on preparation, etc. It acknowledges that Idaho Potatoes are leaders in the industry and the source for potato information."
Named for Betty Bastion Varese, IFEC's beloved former director, the award has been given annually since Varese's retirement in 1991. The Betty is IFEC's highest honor and is presented to an outstanding member who has contributed in an exceptional way to the advancement of IFEC and the foodservice communication field. The recipient is nominated by peer members of the organization and then selected by the IFEC board and past winners.
Although Idaho is famous worldwide for its premium potatoes, some operators don't realize that only potatoes grown in the Gem State can wear the "Grown in Idaho" Seal. Both words Idaho Potatoes and the "Grown in Idaho" seal are federally registered Certification Marks that certify to consumers that they are purchasing genuine Idaho Potatoes that have been grown in the state of Idaho.
