The 2011 Idaho® potato harvest season is in full swing and the 319,000 acres that will be harvested are expected to yield more than 12 billion pounds of Idaho® potatoes.

In addition to the battle to create the best burger, their love for spuds was tested during the Idaho Potato Commission’s (IPC) Side Dish Challenge. The Grand Prize was a $5,000 donation to Florida International University made by the IPC on behalf of Chef Carlos Barillas, Corporate Chef of Burger &Beer Joint, Miami Beach.

February is Potato Lover’s Month and spud lovers in Spanish Fork, Utah are in for a special treat. Fresh Market grocery store has built the world’s largest Idaho® potato display in the produce department using 240,000 russet potatoes. The display made its debut today and will be up until every last potato is sold!

WHAT: One year after the earthquake in Haiti devastated millions of lives, 200 Boise volunteers will spend the afternoon assembling 100,000 MannaPack™ Potato meals to send to malnourished children in Haiti and other impoverished areas around the globe.

This holiday season, the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) spread Christmas cheer to underprivileged children in the Boise area as a partner with United Airlines’ Fantasy Flight. In its fifth year, this magical event flew 80 deserving children from Boise International Airport (BOI) to Santa’s workshop where their holiday wishes came true.

Eagle, ID, August 17, 2010 -- Over 500 volunteers gathered at American Falls High School in American Falls, Idaho for the first mobile Manna Pack packing event to help assemble 300,000 Manna Pack™-Potato meals that will be shipped to countries around the world to help malnourished children, including those in Haiti. Manna Pack™-Potato is a “first food” designed specifically for malnourished children with diarrhea, containing potato granules, soy flour, vitamins, minerals and sweet potato flavoring.
