What are the thread like strings in my potatoes?

This is quite uncommon, but since potatoes don’t have thread-like properties within this is usually associated with the surrounding packaging. Especially so when the potatoes are packed in a burlap-like container. The potatoes can sometimes have minute traces of the thready material stick through the packing, washing and preparation cycles.
