Are Baked Potatoes Bad Nutritionally Speaking?

Are the baked potatoes I eat bad for me?

A:

The simple facts are that, served alone baked potatoes are amazingly good for you. It’s when you load them up that they get a bad rap. I recently read a column on SuperfoodsRX.com by Dr. Geofrey Harris who is a real doctor, not an impersonator like me. (Or am I an impersonator?)

“The potato isn’t picky either. It will soak up trans-fats and saturated fats without prejudice. By adding 2 tablespoons of butter, you add 200 calories and 22 grams of fat. Three tablespoons of sour cream adds 90 more calories and 9 grams of fat. Adding bacon and cheese adds over 300 calories and 15 grams of fat.”

The simplest way to enjoy a baked potato is just to add a little seasoning and dig in. A squeeze of lemon or a drizzle of white wine or apple cider vinegar to add some zip works just fine too.
